Canadian team discovers gene that turns cancers off
VANCOUVER

August 13, 2007 at 6:49 PM EDT

A unique gene that can stop cancerous cells from multiplying into tumours has been discovered by a team of scientists at the B.C. Cancer Agency in Vancouver.

The team, led by Dr. Poul Sorensen, says the gene has the power to suppress the growth of human tumours in multiple cancers, including breast, lung and liver.

The gene, HACE 1, helps cells fight off stress that, left unchecked, opens the door to formation of multiple tumours.

Dr. Sorensen’s team found cancerous cells form tumours when HACE 1 is inactive, but when additional stress such as radiation is added, tumour growth is rampant.

Kick-starting HACE 1 prevented those cells from forming tumours.

The study appears in the advance online publication of Nature Medicine.

OK, I watch the Today Show every day. I love it. Only a few minutes ago, they had a report on a natural drug called “Inostital” This can be found in the local health food stores. The one thing is, this is suppose to reverse the lung cancer gene. NO.this doesn’t mean you can continue to smoke. Dr. Nancy Sneiderman, who is the show’s medical advisor commented on this. This Drug is being tested by the American Cancer institute on those who quit. The gene actually reversed itself from the potential of getting cancer. Now, I’m skeptical, It takes a lot to make me a believer in these things. Especially plant based pills found in the health food stores. Anyone that’s read some of my answers on “natural cures” know how I feel. I’ve been fooled before. Let me add, Nancy did say, this drug will not have an effect on those who continue to smoke. No, it doesn’t work like that. You have to quit. Ha ha. I just want some feedback. Am I being to skeptical? Do you believe this drug?. Those who already buy this will be out of luck if it’s approved by FDA because you know what that means…presription and a whole lot of money to spend. I don’t know. By the way, the test were done on only 10 people and out of those 10. less than half had positive results. I’m a former smoker. Maybe I should go the health food store and stock up before the price shyrockets and you know that’s going to happen. I’ve never taken them before. I really need some incite from knowlegeable people. Any takers? Oh, Dr Nancy did say, this drug will NOT help those with COPD, Emphesema or any other lung disease caused by smoking or anything else. Thanks for your answers, I hope.
Paul, I know all drugs come from nature. I’m not that stupid. (forgive me) the first answer, No, I think you are way out of line. That’s just not true.
